Title descriptions |

Ciro
In this title John and Rodney Ciro fall three old growth redwoods on the
Olson Ranch in Sonoma County. Videoed entirely in an old growth setting. |
 |
Pull Tree
Logging on the Malliard Ranch in Mendocino County. Watch as Ron
Pronsolino climbs old growth Douglas fir and sets rigging so the trees can
be pulled "up-the-hill." Steve Van Horn does the falling. Entirely Old growth
setting. |
 |
Eureka Hill
The Ciro brothers are at it again. The tree featured in this title is a big
back leaning outlaw. I climbed this large redwood and set rigging so it
could be pulled. There was big trouble encountered at the crucial moment
when the tree was being pulled. |
 |
Jack Tree
Ledgendary timber faller Steve Van Horn is at the Malliard Ranch and this
time he's using the "Silvey Tree Savers" to get the redwoods up the hill.
Entirely old growth. |
 |
Bonanza
One of the very last working old growth harvest plans in Humboldt County,
2006. Right above the town of Rio Dell. In Bonanzo you get a rare
glimpse of "the way it used to be." Entirely old growth. There's some pretty
fine trees being felled in this video. Pure environmental mayhem. |
 |
Log Truck
Take a ride with Ron Pronsolino in his log truck to deliver a load of fine old
growth redwood. The logs come from the same redwoods Steve Van
Horn fell at the Malliard Ranch. Watch Ron load the logs using a Cat 966
loader, and then we take the ride through Anderson Valley and up the
coast to Ft. Bragg. |
 |
Wagers
It's the Ciro brothers again and this time they're at the Wager Ranch. In
this title John and Rodney take on a back leaner outlaw and jack it up the
hill. I'll tell you it was more work hiking back up the mountain than it was
falling and bucking this tree. |

Iverson Logging
Watch Ron Iverson's little Christy yarder fly-out some fine redwood logs,
many over 1,000 board feet apiece. It's yarder logging action, from start to
finish. All the timber in this title is felled by Dale Iverson and his son Steve. |
 |
White Fir Fall
A short title, only 5 minutes long, of myself falling a single coast white fir. As
white fir go it's about as big as they come. |
 |
Thompson Logging
My friend Keith Patterson climbs and sets rigging in a large Douglas fir
Then he picks up the saw to fall it. Believe me there's a lot of sawing to get
this baby down. After it's bucked Thompson's equipment moves in to pull
the logs out, using a grapple skidder and winch Cat. |
 |
Mitch and John
My friends Mitch Nelson and John Ceriani of Ft. Bragg work in a large
"clearcut yarder setting" in Pudding Creek. It's "everything goes" in this layout
and nothing but stumps and bare ground is left when they're done. |
 |
Sansi Logging
Selective logging at it finest. Large Second growth on a private ranch in
Mendocino County. Felled, limbed, bucked and videoed all by myself. If
you ever wondered what it's like to work in 100 year old second growth
then this video is a good example. |
 |
Robbies Stub
Here is a short title of falling a large second growth redwood that had been
previously topped out at 60 feet. The contour of the ground for the tree to
lay proved more that it could handle, and it broke. Big break. |
 |
Philbrick Logging
Working on the flats of Big River, Ken Kenny falls some huge second
growth redwoods. Up to 10,000 board feet. Philbrick's grapple skidder
grunts to move the logs to the landing and then getting them loaded on the
trucks becomes another challenge for Mark Robertson. |
 |
Burn Baby Burn
After the logging the Sansi Ranch the burn crew went back during the
rainy season and burned every piece of slash. There's more than one way
to start and kindle a fire to burn brush and in this title you'e going to see a
bunch. As Smokey says "It takes only one match." |
 |
Van Ciro
Steve Van Horn and John Ciro fall large second growth redwoods in
Anderson Valley. When the first tree hit the lay we had to run or cover,
but instead of cover we ran straight into a yellow jackets nest. I never got
stung so much in my life. This title actually has a music score almost all
the way through. |

Title description
One title on one DVD. Semi-educational type of video. Follow Beranek as he
walks and talks his way through falling second growth timber on a private ranch
in Anderson Valley. The trees are not so large, but the process of going about
falling and bucking them are considered and discussed in many different situations.
Totally unrehearsed. Even the bloopers are shown. Pure chainsaw
mayhem. For a single title this is a long one. 1 hour and 55 minutes.
